There was a time in the Nazarene past when it was way easier for a layperson or a member of the clergy, a denominational college president or an upper echelon Headquarters administrator, a religion professor or a missionary to get away with openly rejecting the doctrine of the Trinity or of the humanity of Christ than get away with getting a divorce. These days “getting a divorce” has been replaced with “accepting LGBTQIA+ folks.”
(Instead of “getting a divorce,” I first said “going to a movie.” I changed that, because that it is a less apt parallel to “accepting LGBTQIA+ folks.” It’s still true, however. It used to be easier for a Nazarene to get away with rejecting the doctrine of the Trinity [either by maintaining an undifferentiated monotheism or a tritheism or something else] than get away with going to a movie.)
