Elesha and I were talking yesterday and I said, I wonder what it would be like to attend a church that does not operate in a haze of nostalgia. (I pointed out that churches trying hard to be relevant or contemporary or whatever are perhaps the most nostalgic of them all, if only because they fixate on *not* being like the uncool churches of the past.) She in turn pointed out to me that our church here in San Diego is just such a church, that working with people who live on the edge in so many ways doesn’t leave room for the indolence of nostalgia. And she is absolutely right.
